As you are considering trusting me to send your child a story each month, you will want to know a little about me.
I became a Christian when I was 16 years old. After teaching in southwest Scotland for three years I married Angus, a librarian, and we moved north to Moray where our three daughters were born.
In the mid 1980s we relocated to Edinburgh where Angus trained for the ministry of the Free Church of Scotland. Having always had discomfort when walking, it was while we were in Edinburgh that I became more seriously disabled and in considerable pain. What seemed a disaster at the time God used for good. Finding myself sitting down rather than up and doing, I studied theology and applied it to my problem with pain. Much to my amazement the results of my study were published.
Not long after "Pain, my Companion" appeared in bookshops we moved to Argyll where Angus ministered to a widely scattered congregation. In 2009 we returned to my home county of Ayrshire and we are now happily settled into semi-retirement and the delights of grandparenthood.
I have written nearly 50 books for Christian Focus Publications, 30 of them for children, and have translations in 15 languages as well as in braille. Most of my books are about ordinary people whom God has used in extraordinary ways. None of those whose stories are told are perfect, but all are inspirational.
Since 1996 I have had the joy of editing "The Instructor", the Free Church of Scotland's monthly magazine for children. It was through The Instructor that I got to know our Story-a-Month artist, Susan Clyne.
Romans 8:28 has been wonderfully true in my experience...
"And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." (NIV)
